In April 2014, for reasons I can’t remember, I was suddenly interested in learning about the divine feminine. I asked around and a friend of mine suggested that I read Dr. Jean Shinoda Bolen’s book “Goddesses in Everywoman: Powerful Archetypes in Women’s Lives.” I placed the order and the book just now arrived.
Unrelated, my friend Karen Halseth from What Truly Matters posted a link to the movie trailer for FEMME, a film by Emmanuel Itier on Facebook about a week or so ago. The first and last woman to speak in the trailer is (did you guess?) Dr. Bolen.
I watched to the video and the voices of the women touched my heart. There are moments when things happen that activate my heart and I know that what I’m hearing to true or right. Usually when that happens I get teary and my heart feels full. That activation is what I felt when I heard these women speak: Dr. Bolen, Sharon Stone, Sheila Kelley and the others. As the trailer concluded, I felt encouraged when I heard Dr. Bolen’s voice saying, “This is a great time to be a woman.”
Since I haven’t seen the movie FEMME yet, I have no idea why Dr. Bolen thinks this is a great time to be a woman. But as I think this through maybe someone else’s “why” isn’t as important as our own individual reasons why. The important thing about my writing this post or the sound bites from the trailer or Dr. Bolen’s books is that, I hope, these words served as catalysts for each of you to find your own understanding of why it’s a great time to be who you are.
If that’s happens, maybe it’s not only a good time to be a woman, but be a living being. My hope is that this blip of a moment nudged each of us a little closer toward trusting our hearts and in doing so helped us to understand that trusting ourselves is what matters.
If the book, the movie trailer and the sound bites are loosely associated dots, I have no idea how long it will take before the connection between the points will appear. And even if they do connect, I don’t know if they will frame an understandable picture. Given all that, the only thing I can do in creating a life I love is to trust myself, keep my eyes open for serendipity, have patience and enjoy the ride.
